Goal: Nurturing Cancer Patients
Nurturing cancer patients is one of the key goals here at Levana Nourishments. Many people undergoing treatments feel disinterested in food. The loss of appetite or lack of time to prepare healthy meals makes eating a burden. Levana Nourishments helps enable patients to live healthily with ease.
Recovering through a healthy diet
South China Morning Post published an article by Eddie Lee on November 26 with Levana’s goal in mind. He writes, “Cancer care center offers patients food for thought with advice on building a diet for recovery.” Further, “Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre is empowering patients with valuable knowledge on how eating right can aid recovery and help reignite a lost joy in food.”
Maggie Jencks, the founder of Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre, also lived with cancer. She began the charity to share her knowledge of maintaining a healthy diet with people in similar situations as her. The first Maggie’s Centre opened up in Edinburgh in 1996. 20 more centers have opened up in the United Kingdom since then. A permanent location in Hong Kong is the newest center.
Re-discovering the joy of eating
The head of the new Hong Kong center is Helen Lui Wong Yun-fong. She said, “The organization had been aiming to help cancer patients regain the joy of eating while ensuring they got the nutrients needed to keep up their strength.” The purpose of Maggie’s is to equip cancer patients with tools to choose healthy and energizing foods. Maggie’s also provides patients with “free programs to provide emotional and psychosocial support for people affected by cancer.”
